About Us
We started the CPVA to bring together people working in Calgary’s video production industry.
Videographers and video production companies often encounter situations where they need additional support. It might be a production challenge they’ve never seen before, a need for technical assistance, or simply a requirement for a bigger crew.
But without a connection to a wider community of professionals, it’s tough to know who you can count on.
The CPVA began as a way for Calgary videographers and video production companies to connect in a way that would prove helpful to all of us. To share our knowledge and experience, and offer assistance when required.
We also wanted to establish a way for clients looking for help with a video project to find a production company that’s the right fit.
The barrier to entry in video production is lower than ever, and it can be tough for prospects to know whom they can trust.
So in addition to our directory of video production businesses, the CPVA established a system of certifying videographers and video production companies. Professionally certified CPVA members have met our rigorous standards for technical skill and ethical business practices.
We believe that sharing knowledge and experience benefits us all.

Levels of CPVA Membership
- Certified members: regularly produce work which meets the technical standards for professional video production as evaluated by our membership committee. They may use the CPVA logo for advertising and are listed in the CPVA directory.
- Associate members: either specialize in a specific aspect of video production (e.g. drone operators, video editors, sound recordists, etc.) or are members that don’t yet meet the full requirements for professional certification.
- Student members: are new to video production and actively learning. Student members may benefit from assisting as crew as well as from mentorship and learning opportunities.
CPVA Code of Ethics
- Maintain the highest standard of honesty in all transactions, avoiding unfair business practices and never making false claims
- Produce videos that are equal or superior to demonstration examples
- Work in a courteous and cooperative spirit with fellow professionals, assisting them when possible in case of trouble or difficulty
- Assist and share knowledge with fellow professionals
- Maintain equipment in good working order and have backup systems and procedures in place
- Advance and improve our video production knowledge, skill, and related technical and business disciplines
